Knees

There are tons of reasons for pain in your knees. People have had experiences where pain is mild, or had no pain at all, but instead felt like their knee is giving way or clicking. In some cases knee pain stops people from being active or causes them to fall. For example, if pain is severe. Sometimes these signs don’t always mean something serious and relief can be resolved through just doing some home tactics/ remedies. In other cases these symptoms can be signs of arthritis or other more serious conditions.

    • Sharp/ severe pain: indicating inflammation

    • Aching, stiffness and dull pain: commonly associated with muscular problems

    • Restriction: indicates a problem with the miniscus (two ring shaped cartilage discs in the knee), often related to stiffness, or tightness, that can occur with ligament and muscular dysfunction around the area

    • Weakness and/ or swelling: often secondary to trauma, nerve damage or pain

Treatment generally involves adjustments to your pelvis and lower back to reduce joint restriction and inflammation, joint mobilization of the hip, knee and foot to restore normal joint function and soft tissue work to the tight/ weak musculature which will reduce tension and further reduce pain. Also, home exercises.

Be aware that treatment can take weeks or even months to improve.

Our tips:

  • Get enough sleep. According to http://savingmyknees.blogspot.co.uk/, if you are not getting enough sleep on a regular basis or have insomnia, you are more sensitive to pain. Therefore your painful joints will be in much more discomfort than they could be just by something as simple as getting enough sleep.

  • There are also theories about exercises that can help your joints like running and even jumping but these aren't proved and would also depend on the cause for your pain so speak to someone before engaging with any potentially harmful activities.
